Basement and attic

Get back the square footage your storage swallowed

The basement started with a few boxes. Then came the old sofa, the guest-room mattress, the backup freezer, the holiday decorations, the clothes nobody fits into anymore, the toys the kids forgot about. Today you pick your way through it. And the attic, you don't go up there at all. Gestion Débarras empties your basement or attic without you carrying a single box up the stairs. The crew arrives, you walk through it together and you decide on the spot: what stays, what gets donated, what goes. We carry out the rest, item by item, step by step, with straps and floor protection so nothing gets scuffed on the way. We sweep before we close the door. On price, it's transparent: the volume your items take up in the truck, all-inclusive, from labour to disposal. The estimate is free and arrives within 24 hours, by phone, from photos or on site; the final total is set at the end, once loading is done. No hidden fees, no unpleasant surprises. Whether you want to finish the basement, make room for a tenant or simply breathe again, this is the first step.

We empty basements and attics all across the heart of Montérégie and the South Shore, from Longueuil to Saint-Hyacinthe and out to Granby. Often the same day when the schedule allows, and always within the week. It's the kind of job people put off for good reason: hauling everything up a narrow staircase, filling a rented van, making several trips and starting over the following weekend. Here, it's one crew, one truck, one visit. Spiral staircases, attic hatches and narrow cellar doors are part of the crew's daily routine. And nothing goes in the garbage by default: furniture, clothing, toys and decorations in good condition go to local organizations, while cardboard, metal and appliances head to recycling. Less than 30% of what we pick up ends up in the landfill. An empty basement is also one you can finally finish, rent out or show to a buyer.

What we carry up the stairs

Below the house or under the roof, everything that piles up over the years: here's what we carry out most often from Montérégie homes.

Boxes piled up over the years
Old sofas and furniture banished to the basement
Spare mattresses and guest beds
Backup freezer and second fridge
Holiday decorations and seasonal bins
Clothes and coats nobody wears anymore
Toys, games and baby gear
Sagging storage shelves, emptied and removed
Old trunks, suitcases and frames from the attic
Whole basement cleared before you finish it
Attic emptied through the hatch or pull-down stairs
Keep, donate, toss sorting done on site

Frequently asked questions

The basement staircase is narrow. Can you still get everything out?
Yes. Narrow staircases, tight turns and low ceilings are everyday work for us. The crew takes apart whatever comes apart, protects the walls and steps, and brings each item up with straps so nothing gets damaged on the way. If something truly won't fit through the stairwell, we look for another way out with you before forcing anything. All you have to do is show us the way.
I haven't decided what to keep yet. Can you help me sort?
Yes, and it's often the most useful part of the visit. We walk through it with you and separate things on the spot: what stays, what gets donated, what goes. You have the final word on every box; nothing is loaded without your okay. To speed things up, you can mark ahead of time what's sure to go, but it isn't required. We work at your pace.
I want to finish my basement. Can you empty it completely before the work starts?
Yes, it's a common request. We take out everything in the way: boxes, old furniture, storage, backup appliances, right down to the last bin under the stairs. You get back a clear, swept floor, ready for your contractor or your own project. Tell us when the work begins and we'll schedule the visit just before, so nothing sits in the way in between.
What happens to boxes of clothes and toys that are still good?
They don't end up in the garbage. Clothing, toys, furniture and decorations in good condition go to local organizations that pass them on. Cardboard, metal and old appliances head to recycling. Only what can't be salvaged is disposed of responsibly. In the end, less than 30% of what we pick up reaches the landfill. If a box absolutely has to be donated, let us know: we'll set it aside.
How long does a basement cleanout take, and how soon can you come?
Most basements and attics are cleared in a single visit; how long it takes depends on the volume and the staircase. As for timing, we often come the same day when the schedule allows, and always within the week. Send a few photos with your request: you get a free estimate within 24 hours and we offer you the earliest available slot in Montérégie.
