After the pickup

What really happens to your items after we leave

You want it gone, but not just anywhere. The sofa is still good, so is the dresser, the boxes of dishes could be useful to someone, and the idea of sending it all to the dump bothers you. But finding takers, driving around to drop-off points and hauling the rest is time you don't have. That's where we come in. At Gestion Débarras, every pickup is sorted on site, as we load. Anything still in good shape, furniture, dishes, clothing, toys, small appliances, is set aside to be passed on to local organizations. Metal, wood, cardboard, electronics and appliances are separated and sent to recycling. Whatever can be salvaged or repaired is. Only what truly has no use left goes to landfill, and that's less than 30% of what we pick up. You don't need to separate anything ahead of time: you tell us what goes, we carry everything, and we sweep before leaving. Sorting is included in the price, which is transparent and based on the volume your items take up in the truck. You get a free estimate within 24 hours, by photos, by phone or on site, and the final total is set at the end, once loading is done.

This approach applies to every service we offer, from a basement cleanout in Longueuil to a commercial clear-out in Saint-Hyacinthe, estates, end-of-lease cleanouts and renovation debris included. We cover the heart of Montérégie and the South Shore, often the same day when the schedule allows, always within the week. Sorting it yourself means renting a truck, going down the stairs twenty times, making trip after trip and, in the end, throwing out plenty of things that could have been used, for lack of time. One visit from our insured, vetted crew takes care of all of it. You can help: tell us ahead of time what's in good condition and what you'd like to see donated, keep fragile items together, and leave the rest as it is. The more we know, the more we salvage.

Where your items end up

Sorted on site, on every job: here's what we set aside for donation, recycling or salvage instead of the landfill.

Good-condition furniture passed on to local organizations
Dishes, clothing and toys still usable
Reusable bikes, tools and sporting goods
Metal: bed frames, shelving, barbecues
Appliances routed to recycling
Electronics, computers and TVs recycled
Wood: broken furniture, pallets, offcuts
Cardboard and paper flattened and recycled
Books, frames and décor that find new homes
Salvageable doors, windows and building materials
Small appliances and lamps that still work

Frequently asked questions

Where do my items go after pickup?
Everything is sorted on site, as we load. Furniture, dishes, clothing and other items still in good condition are set aside and passed on to local organizations that redistribute them. Metal, wood, cardboard, electronics and appliances are separated and sent to recycling. Whatever can be repaired or salvaged is. Only what's left goes to landfill, and that's less than 30% of what we pick up.
Do I need to sort my things before you arrive?
No, it's not necessary: our crew sorts as it loads, and you don't have to carry or separate anything. But if you'd like to help, point out what's still in good condition and what you'd rather see donated than thrown out. Group fragile items, like dishes, in a box. Those few minutes make a real difference in how much we manage to save.
Does sorting and recycling cost extra?
No. Sorting, donation and recycling are part of the service, on every cleanout we do. Pricing is transparent and based on the volume your items take up in the truck; it covers labour, lifting, transport, sorting and disposal. You get a free estimate within 24 hours, and the final total is set at the end, once loading is done. No hidden fees, and no surcharge for doing things right.
What still ends up in landfill?
Whatever has no use left and can't be recycled: a stained mattress, a collapsed sofa, particleboard furniture that's crumbling, mixed plastics, renovation scraps too damaged to reuse. We don't inflate the numbers: that share is what makes up less than 30% of what we pick up. Anything with a chance of being donated, repaired or recycled goes through sorting before it gets that far.
Does this apply to a single item too?
Yes. A single sofa, an old fridge, a few boxes or an entire house: the sorting is the same. This approach applies to every service we offer, residential, estate, commercial, end-of-lease and renovation debris, everywhere across the heart of Montérégie and the South Shore. Same crew, same truck, same way of doing things, whether you have one item or a hundred.
